Create an outstanding resume. The purpose of a resume is to get me invited in for an interview or volunteer opportunity. It’s a marketing tool for me to get an interview.
Answer these five questions to create my OUTSTANDING Resume
- How to reach you? Header: Name, Telephone, Email, LinkedIn address
2. What are your qualifications for the type of opportunity you want? Summary and Skills
3. How Did I Prepare? Education and Training
4. Where Have I Done It? Experience (Work or Volunteer)
5. How Well Have I Done It? Accomplishments
Sections of AN OUTSTANDING Resume
- Header – Include your name, telephone, email, LinkedIn address. Your street address, city, state are optional.
- Summary – Describe who you are (your identity, brand), your unique qualifications to do the type of work, and what you can bring to the hiring company – all in a brief paragraph.
- Skills – list your top 9-10 skills from Exercise 2.3. You may create 2-3 columns on the resume in the skill section.
- Accomplishments – Refer to the homework from Class 2 where you created several examples of accomplishments that you felt really good about using the Exercise 1.2 template. Shape these examples into key accomplishment statements, highlighting in each statement the situation or task, action taken, and results achieved.
- Experience – Refer to Exercise 2.3 where you identified each of your job experiences: company, city, state, year started – year ended, job title, and key responsibilities.
- Education – Include college degree, some college, high school, or other relevant training.
- Professional Affiliations or Memberships or Awards – include only if job/career related.
- Community Involvement – include only if job/career related.
Typically, resumes are 1 – 2 pages depending on experience. Font size: 10-12.
